My Fatboy is on it's second set in the rear, dunlaps. 5500 for the first tire, I'm at 9500 now and just about running bald. Front tire is getting a little skinny. I would change both if I was going very far. Because of this, I'm thinking real hard about the dark side.
It depends on how you ride, which will determin the amount of miles you get on a rear tire. I like to do alot of burn-outs, so my tires don't last long. But who cares, ride your bike how you like...tires are cheap.

It don't matter how easy you are on Dunlops, they don't last. I have just over 4k. easy miles on my Heritage rear tire and they tell me that it is borderline for this inspection.
I just changed to michlins on my softail custom, been checking up on blogs and the general consences claims twice the milage, we will see, so far i have about 1000 on them . they ride great and hold the road just as good.
You can forget about getting twice the milage out of them. At least that's my experience on my 08 FXSTC. But I do love the way they grip, so I'll be sticking with them. Ain't never had any luck finding a tire that lasts in the 200 size.

When I was a member of the VTX 1800 forum (they eat tires for breakfast) Many of us used the Bridgestone Batelax 020 series tire (radial) mileage not any better, but a good handling tire at 1/2 the price. I dont know if they still make the 020 series in your 200mm rim size, but worth a look
I twist my wrist hard on my bike. The rears get anywhere from 4-6K depending on the time of year. That gets me about 3 months out of a tire. Winter is a bit better, I suspect the cooler street, but still at or under 6K. I know its the twist of the wrist that does it, because the fronts last me 12-15K with ease. My riding is mostly one up but quite a bit of highway riding.
I have been running Lops and Metz, might try the Mich's but I don't expect any better.
