Default wheel axles - I want to change my bike to 1 inch axles

Hey Fellas, I am having a terrible time trying to find used mag wheels that can use 25mm bearings.. my options are:

A.- Older (not Timkem bearing type, but the newer sealed bearing type) wheels that have the hub that accepts the typical 3/4 - 1 inch bearings, those hubs are designed to use 52mm OD (Outer Diameter) , 21mm wide, and either 3/4 of 1'' ID (Inner Diameter = Axle Diameter) then find both front / rear 1 inch replacement axles for my 2011 Blackline (and here is the question, have any of you done this?.. do you know what model/year 1 inch axles can fit my blackline?.. perhaps from 2000-2008 years? part number?)

B.- stick to 25mm Axle, but replace the used mag wheel bearing with a 52mm OD, 21mm Wide, 25mm ID bearing, I have seen those bearings online, I went to a local bearing store and they wanted $70 per bearing, and they were not even sure if it was sealed.. here is one I found online: http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit6937 There are some other similar bearings online, but I am not sure if this is a good idea... have any of you done this?..

Thanks much!!..

You can get the "wide" version of the 25mm bearings on eBay for about $30-$40 for all 4. That would be my choice if you can find the wheels you like. That way you'd be using all of your stock axle spacers. I went the opposite way and played hell getting my spacers figured out.

Why do you want to change to 1" bearings? If you avhe aftermarket rims with hubs that bolt on you can also probably just get a new hub for the fraction of the cost of a whole wheel.

HogPro... sorry.. I forgot to mention.. I want Mags... the reason behind 1 inch axles is that I want the 13 spoke mags exactly like the Sportster Iron has.... of course... the Iron is a relatively new bike and the only one that I am aware of that comes with 25mm bearings (and it is almost impossible to find those wheels used anywhere)... I know that Dynas also come with 13 spoke mags.. but the only way I can find used 13 spoke mags that are cheap is to go with older wheels... I believe HD wants $750 per wheel if you want them new.. that is way too much... I can usually get used (in good shape) wheels at salvage shops around here for about $100.. my logic behind switching to 1 inch axles is that is opens the possibilities for other wheels (since on the more modern HD wheels you have two options: 3/4 - 1 inch wheels and 25mm wheels)... that way I am free to install pretty much any HD wheel... Plan B (getting 52mm OD, 21mm, 25mm ID) is less appealing because, first, it is not the HD approach (correct me if I am wrong, but I am not aware of a production HD bike that comes with 52mm OD, 21mm, 25mm ID wheels/axles)... second, the alternatives that I found at local bearing stores are not cheap, $50-$70 PER bearing, and, these alternatives leaves you still stuck in the 25mm wheel World..),.. I know.. this seems like a long and convoluted explanation, you are probably asking yourself, why the hell he is not just saying "I want 1 inch axles.. period"... well.. I imagine that are others with the same dilemma as mine, and I just wanted to help in making a more informed decision to other fellow members... (or perhaps I have been drinking too many Russian Imperial Stouts... hahaaa)

thanks for the input fellas!... happy riding!

25mm is one inch M.O.L. ... I suspect the change occurred due to HD shopping the global market for the cheapest price.

Get a different ID bearing with all other specs in line. You may need to find bearing spacers for the inner and outer bearings also... and of course nuts, washers, etc.

Hey man... yeah.. 25mm / 1 inch are pretty close.. it is just a 0.4mm difference.. so I see no issue in reusing the 25mm spacers when I go with 1 inch axles.. however, as I stated before, getting a non-standard configuration by using 52mm OD, 21mm, 25mm ID bearings on a newer wheel is not appealing to me.. specially since we are talking about such a critical item as wheel bearings.. sure... many bearing experts here can certainly pick bearings with the right load specs (radial, axial, etc)... but I am not a bearing expert and I am not willing to risk my life that way... I much rather go with a configuration that is a tried and true HD Wheel / Bearing / Axle configuration .... with that said... do any of you fine fellow members know which 1 inch axle fits my 2011 Softail Blackline ?? ( well, whatever is left of my Blackline.. hahaa)

A buddy of mine attempted to convert 3/4 axles to 1 inch on his Softail but gave up due to the complexity of the project. Wheels and bearings were the easy part. The 1 inch axles were to large to mount to his lower front fork legs, rear swing arm, and brake caliper.

I don't recommend changing your axle size due to the fact that there are so many components sized to fit your current axles. The proper approach is to find the correct bearings (ID, OD, and Width) to fit your current axle size and the wheels you intend to use. Try "All *****". They have quality bearings of all sizes.
