It seems a lot of guys are recommending K&N. Any hookups to good deals on that brand?

Gman, way too **** to wait till 5K. At three thousand I start to freak out. Yeah, probably wasting filter money right there, but if I don't the therapy to calm my nerves would cost triple. lol

Hell, it took me five years of driving my Ford Focus till I could let that thing go 5K between changes and I don't even like that car.
Yea, a lot of folks are stuck on that 3000 mile deal. Fact is, the oil companies came up with that years ago. Fuel injection and synthetic oil have surely changed that thinking. I have a C6 Corvette that will go up to 14,000 miles before a change if it happens within a year.

Lol, I certainly do need a new hobby. Still, the fact remains they are NOT eight bucks. They are 16 dollars a piece. Thats absurd for a filter. Hey, I have been an attorney for 15 years. I can afford to get fleeced if I choose to do so. But I "choose" to not partake in the flagrant gouging Harley Davidson so proudly subjects the lemmings too. I also change my oil quite often and pile lots of miles on my bike. I have already put over 2500 miles on this bike and I bought it 6 weeks ago. Thats over double what the previous owner put on the same bike over a seven year period. So.....no. I will not waste money at the dealer. I have way better things to waste money on. Like chrome!!!

wulf, those filters you listed are black.

K&N is all I've used on my vehicles for the past 20 yrs. I don't care what I have to pay to get them. Bought a couple out of that place on Ebay for $15-$16 apiece and free shipping. Considering a reusable as stated above. I cringe every time I pay $17/quart for oil, but if that's what it is.....

I wish. I would buy a case this very second at that price. I suspect you are buying the black filters. My bike comes with (and I choose to continue to use) chrome ones. Thats one bad Fat Boy you got by the way.

And machinistmate, yeah. Thanks for the heads up.

Your right it is the SuperPremium5™ Oil Filters - 5 Micron in black but for $2.00 more I get the chrome one's for the wife's Chrome *****. I see your point in the jacked up dealer price in your area.

Harleys 5 micron is misleading what they dont tell you is that is 5 microns at 50% efficiancy which means it will catch 5 microns 50% of the time where the others like wix and kandn are 10 micron at 98-100% of the time. And probably if they would test the harley filters it would probably end up being 10 micron at 98-100%

I buy amsoil ones a case at a time, they have chrome too I think.
They are made by wix,as are the napa brand filters too I believe.
When it comes to filters why screw around for a few bucks right. I mean I buy the best oil I can get for it,maybe this isn't a place I want to pinch a dime.

My brother and just switched over to the new stainless steel FLO micronic oil filters. Re-usable, cooling fins built in and when you clean it, you can see if the chain tensioners are coming apart if there are bits of plastic in the filter...90 bucks on ebay and never buy one again. I see they are selling them for cars also. Seems to work fine.

Thanks for all the replies. Enough of you guys convinced me that K&N were pretty much as good as disposable filters get. As I mentioned a few times, I insist on the best for my bike when I comes to filters, but refuse to pay dealer prices again. I found an ebay seller with a 4-Pack of K&N's shipped to my door for 55 bucks ($13.75 each). I like the rear nut as well. Thanks again for all the replies. Once I get these twin cams sorted out in my head, I'll be a much happier camper.

edit: Found a seller (Jireh) who had them for $49.95 shipped for the 4-pack. $12.49 each is not too bad for a top of the line chrome filter, I think.
