Default 99 FXSTB intermittent starting issues

Hi, I'm a new member to this forum. I'm hoping somebody can help me figure out why my 99 FXSTB won't start sometimes. Good brand new battery (tested good), strong lights, nothing when I push the button or maybe I will get a click. Turn the ignition switch off and on and you may or may not get a different result. Then it may start. It did it 3 days ago, pushed it and fired right up. Did it today and pushed it twice, didn't start but when I tried the button it fired right up. ?!?!?!?!? After it did it 3 days ago, I thought maybe I had a weak cell in my battery, that's when I got a new battery. Wasn't the problem...

Where do I look? At this point I'm wondering about the starter switch, kill switch, starter solenoid and starter relay. Anybody been through this before?

Thanks in advance.

I would say you are at the point that you need a wiring diagram and a good test light and multimeter. Begin at the starter, and if the solenoid gets power, it is there, but if not, troubleshoot your way back till you find the bad connection/component.

Thanks. Unfortunately it has yet to do it in the garage. I guess I am going to have to start taking additional tools in the bag for awhile until I get this figured out. Reading the service manual, it looks like a loose connection/ground somewhere in the circuit...

I did go ahead and replace the starter relay. Will try to replicate in the garage. Mostly just wait and see I guess...

put a push button on the solanoid and be done with it.Low voltage through the skinny *** wires used from the relay to the switch. Push button will never let you down.
