Last summer I bought a 1998 Fatboy with 30,000 mi for $7500. basically bone stock except for V&H pipes. It was a great deal for me because I love working on my toys, and I dont feel guilty tearing into it and modifying. Ive learned allot and had a ton of fun so far. I vote buy a used older bike, to me its more fun and you got some $ left to play with it.

Never bought anything from this site but it's good for a reality check.......low mile 2006 for $10,900.

I just looked up Fatboy in the St. Louis area and this poped up.......not a bad deal.

At my age I bought new because it may be my last bike,!!

But at Ur age U'll probably have several more, so buying used isn't a bad idea unless U like the Idea for peace of mind of having one that U know how its been taken care of..

But I'd wouldn't buy one that the motor has been modded a lot.. Stg 1 and cams would probably be it. Then I'd want to know who did the cams. Plus the 07's and newer with the 96'ers and 6 speeds would be a must for me

Every time I bought a used bike I always asked for the maintenance records.

Brandt's in Wabash have had some really good prices on used ones, better than most dealers.. At least the times I've been there they have.
I haven't been to their newly bought shop in Marion so I can't say what the prices on used bikes there are. But U might check if U looking for used.

Also there is a small shop that buys from auction and re-po's all over the states that sell them in North Webster, Burkes Repo outlet,, just be careful and check the bike out if U like one there, some have a rebuilt Title. but they do have great prices.

Overall if Ur looking at spending $13-14K on used, then for a couple more K's for a new one with all the change's in the 103 motor may be a good investment plus a new warranty.

Ur choice and hope U love whatever U get.

Definitely used is going to be the better value minus the warranty but it's like pulling teeth to get the warranty coverage to pay anyway. I just bought my 06 fatboy with just under 7000 miles for 9500. I had 2 to choose from locally. There was another 06 for 10,000 that was black. There were several more 07, 08, for around 12-13000. The 07 has a bigger engine 96" and I think they have the stock six speed as well. The 96" have a bad rep for being heaters. The 06 was the last year for the 88" but has all the power I need to putt around with. Plus most of you used bikes will already have some of the chrome you will probably end up buying too which will save some money in the long run. Mine is FI and already had stage one with tuner. And new tires.

I bought my used this past Feb. with over 11K on it in the 9 range, I've added a few things already and enjoyed riding with it a lot. I'm planning on riding tonight, I vote used, but take someone that knows something along with you when you look at a used one if possible as they might be able to point out potential problems or advice on a bike.

If you're not set on the new stock 103 motor, I'd go used. Be patient and do your homework on value. I shopped on eBay for several months to see what people were asking for particular years, accessories, and mileage. You can then set a realistic budget and make informed offers. You need to decide what's important to you. 88 or 96 or 103 motor / FI or carb / 180 or 200 back tire / 5 or 6 speed. For me, any accessories were a bonus: windshield or backrest, or some sweet pipes, etc...(although mine was almost bone stock). Those answers could at least put you in a range of years. There's a lot of guys out there that think their exhaust doesn't stink and the bike is made of gold. Translation: they bought a new bike at full retail and had the dealer add on a bunch of accessories. You can do a sanity check on Kelly's BB. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies guys. The 103 is what makes me really want to get New. That and i would do the ABS after hearing virtually EVERYONE who has it, loves it.

88 or 96 or 103 motor / FI or carb / 180 or 200 back tire / 5 or 6 speed...:
i would like 103, but 96 is fine/ def want FI/ tires.... fatter the better/ and i would also like a 6 speed if possible.
Anyone have first had experience with the 5 and 6 sp.?
Is it a noticeable difference?
What years would those preferences put me at, 2008 or newer?

I bought a 2004 Fat Boy last year with 18K miles on it and a bunch of extras. Threw away most of the skull and flames making it my own. I like this bike and they can be had in Northern California or the $9-$10K range. Don't over pay for someone else's accessories (especially paint) find your own.

You're looking at 2007 and up for wide tire, 96" FI motor (07-11 for 96"), 6 speed. Every comment I've seen on the 6 speed has been favorable...I like it too. Several that had pre-2007 trannies upgraded.

Of course there are used 2012s with 103s available too.
