If you go with the 1.50 bars you probably already know to change out the risers, but you have a couple of options. I wanted those risers you see on last picture so I had to change out the top plate for it. Carlini also has a set of risers that will bolt on to the Springer plate and no need to change out top plate, but there is only one style of riser for that (they still look bad ***). With bars that big and apes I wanted the specific risers that had the little tap screws(whatever they're called) in addition to the normal clamp screws. When you do that you can't move the bars at all and there is no play or movement whatsoever.

If you go that route hit me up and I can share a few pointers on it. Your scoot is looking bad *** too!
Thanks for all the info.

I too think that 14 would suit me just fine. However I want to stick with 1.25 at the most. Fortunately I have two sets of Harley risers. The stock Bones risers for 1" bars and the optional H-D risers for 1.25 bars that I had coated in black and am running with my H-D Wide Beach Bars.

Are you bars designed for Springers? I had to ask because I suspected that your bars were Carlinis but they seemed nice and narrow down by the risers. When I looked on their site, I got the impression that their Springer apes were rather wide at the bottom which is the case with most ape hangers that are made for Springers. It's a consequence of the wider riser spacing on the Springers. I have a set of 16" Wild Onez and I would run them but they are really wide at the bottom which I don't like.

I've read on other threads that folks have issues getting taller apes to stay put. But then I've also read that some people had issues with their stock Crossbones mini apes moving on them as well. An issue I never had. It will be curious to see how going to something taller will work for me.

Do your bars reduce at the center for the risers? I would like to find something in a 1.25 bar that DOESN'T reduce at the risers so I can run my current 1.25 risers which I think would do a better job of holding them in place than my stock 1" risers.

Either way, I'll definitely hit you up for more info once I do come around to making the switch.

Thanks again!

Skeez... it looks like you pretty much understand the situation on the risers because that's exactly right.

The bars were not designed for Springers. There are a few options on the market for the springer bars to bolt on to the wider risers, but I just didn't think there were enough options and not the exact bars I wanted to get. So I did the adapter plate for springers. Arlen Ness and Carlini are the two main ones that carry that plate. The plate replaces existing one and lines up two new holes that fit all existing non springer risers and options and once you do that then the type of bars that you can choose from become abundant and you are no longer tied to the "Springer" bars.

These bars that Carlini make for the 1.50 inch do not step down on the riser clamps. They do make the 1.25 in the same bars and on the 1.25 they have the option to either order a stepped one for the 1" or a non stepped that would bolt up to your existing risers at 1.25.

Also, my bars do not budge because you clamp the bolts down like regular risers, but on each riser it has an addition screw that has a point and when screwing in it kind of indents and taps the bar adding even less room for any play or movement. I had the bra risers that had those on my other bike and once I had that compared to my friends it wouldn't budge. When they would ride my bike they would comment about how solid it felt and set up on the apes. So that was my goal.

If I understand you on the other part, I am the same on Springer Apes. I don't care for the wider base on bars lining up to our more narrow forks on springers. So that is another reason I went with changing plate because I wanted to find the overall bars that were as narrow as possible with all the other options I was looking for on pull back and width, etc... So once you take out the Springer bars factor I think there are quite a few variations on apes to fit your style. The base on these measure around 11" wide. So unless you went with some bars that are really narrow on base the 10-12" is about the standard narrow base on most bars. I didn't care for the real narrow ones on my bike, but to eaches own for sure.

Let me know when you get ready. I like beach bars too and I use to run drags on my other bike, but for me... once I went Ape I don't want to go back. I like the look but that's not the main reason. It's a great feel when riding and you are hitting the right height for you personally... they're hard to beat.

Good luck bro! I am always long winded...sorry

How did you go about getting sich a fat rear wheel/tire on a '91?! I've got a 1993 and the rear is only a 130mm.

Nice retro looking springer.

Was the flexpipe part of the exhaust package or was it added on to the stock header pipes?

Yes, in Illinois - Downers Grove.
No to full fender and tombstone taillight (its the wide-glide type), and only time downtown this week was Thursday night.

I don't see a lot in the same color. This one was the Harley repaint service. Not sure what the name of the colors are, maybe Aztec Orange/Diamond Ice, but don't know for sure.
