i do my own, you can find out how on youtube, mainly change engine oil, trans oil and clutch oil. check adjust belts and primary, and change plugs, get a gasket service kit from dealers and save money.

Of course you should do a 20K service. Why would you not?

As for the checklist, the full list in in the owners' manual and the service manual.

A thorough check over of all the bike, along with flushing the primary, transmission, and engine oil.

Spark plugs too.

If you're mechanically inclined, you can do it all on your own, assuming you have the tools. Otherwise, you're looking around $400 at a dealer service department.

fork oil change as well plus a lot of visual checks and yes it does need to be done, as with any vehicle, regular maintenance is necessary Maintenance is always cheaper than repairs. do it yourself if you have the ability, but know that doing it right is more than changing the oil and some parts. another alternative is find an independent.

The only 'dealer' check-up I had done was 1000 miles. If I was buying a new HD today I wouldn't even do that one. 24,000 miles and doing fine.

There is at least 25 things plus more, that the dealer is "supposed" to check..!!!! during the 20K service, Plus change the oils and filter...

At least read through this and U should learn something...
