Default Mustang seat back rest is stuck!

I cannot for the life of me budge the backrest. It won't come off, I can't pull it up, push it down or anything. I used to be able to pull up on it and it would come out - now? Now it just won't move! I put a little oil down inside - but that didn't help.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Nope, can you remove the seat and see what's hanging it up?

Never heard of that problem before. From the way it works it seems to use some sort of spring clamping action with a tang that hooks into the indentations on the seat back. Certainly sounds like something is broke.

And it looks like you have to pop off several rivets on the underside of the seat to service or replace it. First thing I would go is give Mustang a call and see what have to say about it.

The seat back does come off the post if you need to get it off. Remove 2 screws and the thumbscrew.

Curious to know how you get this resolved.

Had a Mustang seat with a back rest since 03, first on my sporty and now on my fatboy. Never had that happen to me. I did need some new hardware as the swivel part of the back rest had gotten very hard to move. Stopped by the Mustang setup at an event and they changed out the hardware, gave me new screw setup for the fender mount and all they ask for was a thank you. I m sure if you give them a call, they will help you out.

If you are going to any events that Mustang will be at, make sure you stop in and see them, maybe they can fix it right there for you.

I am the worst procrastinator with no memory! I googled this problem and saw this and clicked on it...then I realized I was the one that wrote it. Damn.

I can't get to it from the underside of the seat and after reading replies I saw where Mustang replied. I will call them tomorrow and report back. No more putting it of.

i have the vintage solo w/ backrest and it seems like the backrest is held in place by the weight of the rider...no springs? hopefully you didnt try to jam it in when it wasn't on the "track".
