I was forced to stay for a double shift on Christmas eve, and I was super tired to following morning. I should have known better. I was trying to move my bike and when I stopped to open the gate, I forgot the put the kickstand down. Stupid I know…
Well, before I realized my mistake the full weight of the bike was beyond my ability to catch it, and smash! I couldn’t believe it! What was even more amazing was how fast it happened, and how bad it hurt as I was smashed into the concrete myself. I guess I deserved it though.

It wasn’t until I pulled the bike back up that my heart sank however. I knew the turn signal and mirror were gone, but then I saw the tank. I wanted to cry. Called the dealer and got her down there for the estimate. The insurance insisted they did the work so the total came out to $2500. I almost crapped myself! Thank goodness for my low deductible.
The damage:
Tank, handlebars, mirror, turn signal (front and rear), clutch lever, floorboard and mount, shift lever, primary and derby, and my swing arm bag.
The bag I claimed, but waxed and polished it to new. Gotta love real leather!
After all was said and done and I was forced to buy new parts, it was time for an upgrade! Black levers, primary, and derby to start. But I figured I’d order the LED headlight I’ve been wanting forever! When I went in to pick it up I randomly decided on the LED tail light too.
All in all I was $240 out of pocket, plus the lights. I’m just glad it was driveway and not on the road. Lesson learned, I won’t ride tired again.

Sometimes having full coverage really pays off. I dropped my bike once when I first got it and like you said once it gets past a certain point Hercules himself couldn't stop it from going all the way down. Fortunately I was on grass when mine went down and there was no damage. Knock on chrome it hasn't happened since.

I know you probably don't want to put engine guards on but they do work. My wife did the same thing you did with her brand new Deluxe. Forgot to put the kickstand down when parking the bike in the garage. Bike went over till it hit the guard and stopped. No damage.

The idea of engine guards is funny. Not haha, but peculiar. I had put serious thought into them and even had them on a bike I had many years ago. The consensus was simple. Not putting them on. Despite everything, I don't regret that desission but you're right, they would have saved my bike.

I think this is the first time EVER that insurance has been great to have. I paid $240 for the claim and $800 when I bought it for the whole year. I'm still negative overall in the insurance game, but this time it was worth it.

I dropped mine in a parking lot after I had a few too many. Luckily just my rear turn signal, mirror & lever got scraped up but that was it. Lesson learned to not drink more than 26 beers & still ride. Lost my helmet somewhere too. Never again.....

I had a guy brush past me at a stop sign, wnt right down my left side, and it sent me over on the right. Caught most of it, but ended up on the lower pipe. Almost no way they can go down and not need repairs.

LMFAO...been there done that, then we get older and wiser.
I'll be damned if we dont end up doing it again.

Edit: Had to add, you know ya had one helluva night when ya wake up next mornin go inspect the scoot only to find both mirrors gone, no turn signals and foot pegs dangling.

I have often thought about getting the highway bars/engine gaurds for my bike for this reason. Still have not pulled the trigger, but this certainly makes that purchase closer.

Comments from me? 1st, the old saying, "**** happen's"!! 2nd?, I'd throw myself under the bike if it went over and believe it or not, I have!! Like the one guy said, 1 to many back in the day. I was so plastered that time that my freinds begged me to let one of them drive my bike home for me, NEVER I said! I was so plastered I couldn't walk but I could ride, until I got to a stop light or stop sign, it fell over at every one of them all the way home, again, back in the day. I also had guards on that bike. 3rd?, 800.00 bucks a year for insurance, full coverage? I pay 400.00 a year, full coverage and that is what the bike was valued at, 35k!!!! Hmmmm, wonder whats up with that?? Anyway, if we learn from our mistakes then it's all good, you didn't get hurt, I never got hurt and in the end thats all that really matters....

It's never worth it like you make out better than you started but it's good to have insurance.
