Default New 6 Piston Caliper & Rotor, Brakes Just 'O.K.', How Long Before They Break In?

2007 Softail Custom (FXSTC)

New front 6-piston caliper w/Lyndall pads, new HD rear pads on stock caliper, new floating rotors in front & rear.

Just took it for it's first ride, and the brakes don't seem to stop even as good as the factory set up (yes, they were bled correctly).

Is this common with new brakes & rotors?

I was told that the new components need time to bed. Should I expect to see an improvement in performance in the near future? If so, after how many miles?

Thanks

Ran mine for just over 100 mile, re- bled, then after another 100 the brakes were great, head & shoulders above standard! Never used Lyndall pads though, just used whatever came with the PM Calipers, also use braided hose's too!
No heavy braking while bedding them in either, it can glaze new pads!

I just replaced my rotors and used Lyndal pads and saw and immediate improvement in braking. Used the z-plus pads.

My HHI caliper had a note included that 250 miles was a good "bedding" period. Obviously, that is 250 of more city/stop and go riding, not highway miles.

As Chap mentioned, no hard braking or glazing can happen.

Did your HHI brakes get better after the 250 mile bedding time?
Thanks

It's not on yet, cause I'm waiting for my wheels before I install it (new fat spokes on the way).

BUT - I did just switch to Lyndall Z-Plus pads on my Street Glide, when I switched to the polished rotors. At first, it was sort of like you describe. Now, that bike stops so quick, quicker than before. This of course has the Brembo brakes, but man, the stoppers are super strong now. And I'd say it took about 200 miles to get that way.

Default give me a brake

I'm in the middle of installing a six piston PM caliper also and was wondering if the master cylinder has an adaquite bore to support the caliper. I got all hot nutsy to put on this egay special along with my new 13" disc and am now wondering if I'm going to be another 500$ into it before it's done. Thanks to those who know and will reply.

Standard master cylinder handles the six pot Caliper just fine! Fit braided hose's at the same time, then once the setup is all bed in, you won't be disappointed, my set up is loads better!

Yup, the stock master cylinder should be just fine. And Chap is right, a braided line will make a difference too.

Lyndall has a break in procedure listed on their packaging.

EDIT-... Only for the Lyndall Gold pads..... Z's don't require any special break in.
