Default Brake Pads

Well, it is that time. I am going to buy pads and replace them myself. Front and rear. Do I need to bleed them after changing? I have read yes and no. Can I buy the cheapies off EBAY for 24 bucks for front and rear or is that a no-no?

No bleeding. I never have and haven't had any problems what so ever. I have purchased the 12.99 pads from eBay and haven't had any problems either. I can't imagine that they will last as long as more expensive pads, but so far so good. It's kinda like putting brakes on your car. White box no name pads are just that. White box no name pads. But if you spend a little more, you get a little more.

My 2 cents. It is a very good idea to change your brake fluid at the same time.
Brakefluid absorbs water from the atmosphere and will rust your caliper and master cylinder inners. Don't believe me explain how calipers rust inside from brakefluid?

Do a google search on the subject of brake fluid and water.

Have you done brakes before?

These are not a bad idea either, makes for quick bleeding and fluid changes.

Don't recommend trying to save a few pennys on cheep pads. Your life could depend on them.

I recommend going with either the factory pads, or Lyndall Racing Brakes pads. The no name ones tend to be too abrasive or too soft, wear quickly, etc. I even had a pair that would absorb water and quit working if it rained hard enough, not fun the first time I found that out.

Also, HD and LRB both spend a significant amount of energy developing decent pads to work with their specific vehicles in all applications.

I second the brake fluid change as well. It should be done every two years, regardless. Speed bleeders are great, but the old school two man open-close method works as well.

I always go for the soft pads to save my rotors. Bleeding the brakes is something I do every couple of years or when I add one to my collection. You shouldnt need to bleed them just to replace the pads.

I usually stick with OEM pads. Have tried others and they just haven't worked.

If you haven't changed the brake fluid in a couple of years you may as well. When pushing the calipers back watch the fluid reservoirs to make sure they don't overflow.

$22 Volar pads off eBay work just as good as OEM pads. Also did speed bleeders at the same time and love them. Flushed all my old fluid out it was nasty stuff.
