Default Silly Bar removal -- What's the secret?

It's SISSY BAR, not silly bar! LOL

2012 Heritage Softail Classic

Bought the sport rack that goes behind the sissy bar for mounting a bag for some upcoming road trips.

Looks to be an easy installation -- remove the four torx bolts from the sissy bar mount, insert the sport rack, then screw in the new longer torx bolts.

First off, I'd like to kick the chit out of the 800 pound gorilla who put in the torx bolts. Thought I was gonna have a hernia getting the top two loose.

Then I realized that my torx driver wouldn't reach the botton two torx bolts. They are too low to get a torx handheld screwdriver in there without seriously hitting the rear fender. Even a torx allen wrench won't fit!

Help, gang!

Any suggestions / personal experience on this?

try removing the torx bolts holding the fender strut, if having trouble loosening them use a heat gun but put something to protect the paint work. then remove sissy bar and then you can get at the screws holding the rack on.

Ya have to unbolt the sissybar side plates. No simple fix.

Ya could just remove the front bolts and loosen the back ones and spin the struts up. But ya risk sctaching the fender struts.

Just did my 2007 2 week ago Take the sissy bar off by removing bags first, Then remove bolts for the side plates and remove s/bar + Side plates as a whole piece, then take out the bolts for s/bar, take your time it wasn't hard and YES the bolts holding the sissy bar to the side plates are a bitch. I had to heat mine up to remove. Then put the side plates, s/bar and rack together tight because you can't tighten the bottom bolts when its back on the bike, then re-install.
good luck

OK, this sounds like the way ahead. If this fails, I've got an appointment with my local MOCO who says he'll ONLY charge me for one hour service to install this.

Yeah, right...

Don't forget to use blue locktite when you re assemble. Hence the hard removal of the bolts. Don't use the red. A battery impact and torx sockets are the way to go.
