The HD springer has really been unchanged since 88.. The FX has a right side brake, The FL has a left side..

Beware of cheap knock off springers... A good Springer is going to run you $1000-$2000.

what are you going to do with your speedo? I would warn you over the difficulty in finding bars, but 1. it has gotten much better for Springer owners, and 2. you know better than I do since you have a blackline....

Most hd necks are the sames and frontends are interchangable with a little tweaking and much patience. Make sure the offset is correct and clears the tank when turning.

Any 88-up Moco Springer is a direct bolt on. The difference is the length, brake side and fender options. FX Springers run a small fender and FL Springers run the large fenders. I would look at possibly a Paughco. Less money brand new, incredible quality, show chrome or black and they don't have the goofy looking de-rake the Moco forks have IMHO.

Something that hasn't been mentioned is the FX springer is stock length for the swap. FL's are 2" shorter. The FL will be better if you've lowered the rear of the bike or are planning to.

I went the cheap route the first time and bought a DNA springer. In the end it cost me more, I thought the DNA was junk. Ended up buying an FX springer and put it on my night train.
DNA is good for sportys or smaller bikes.
I'd buy oem harley or paucho.
A few good deals can be found on ebay if you shop a little.
My set came off a 2007 springer CVO, I think I paid 2,000.

This was the set I bought before I had the rear legs painted black...

ok folks i have been in touch with an old biker friend and he said get it so i did.

1989 fx springer frontend. came with fender, turn signals, brake line, and brake caliper. for $750.00

my brother picked it up for me so i havent even seen it in person yet but by all accounts it is in good shape.

the angle my bro took the pic makes the forks look 6" long.

speedo: good question! its hard to visualize without the springer in front of me. off the top of my head id say between the risers. i will see if i can narrow the housing a bit if needed.

bars: id like to find stock springer buckhorns for it. shouldnt be hard as people seem to hate the bucks these days. if i cant get stockers ill nab some cheap, wide-base, non-knurled bars and pin them in the risers.
