On the 1995 bikes the frame is already drilled and tapped with mounting holes on the left side. You may have the plastic plugs still in the frame. They can be removed by prying them out.
Thank you,
JR

Is that your bike, and if so did you have to drill and tap the frame to mount the left muffler bracket?????????? The title of the thread is "did I just get screwed out of $900 for samson pipes" if you want to reference his thread. Some of the responses are pretty colorful regarding the OP bashing Samson, If I have to get the frame drilled and tapped then its Ok with me I'm just trying to prepare for the install when they get here. Thanks in advance.
Yes, he had to drill and tap the frame. If yours is the same as the one in the thread that you mentioned then just do as I advised the other to do. Go ahead and get the right side bolted up where you want it. Then loosely bolt up the left side with the bracket bolted onto the tail pipe. Use a block of wood to support the left side and make sure it is sticking past the fender just as the right side and that it is level with the right side. Then with the bracket against the frame use the holes in the bracket to mark the frame where you need to drill the mounting holes. Remove the left tail pipe and drill and tap the holes. You will need a 5/16 drill bit and a 3/8"x16 tap. When you get the tap to start cutting threads just screw it in about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn then back it all the way out to clean out the cuttings so you will not jam up the cutters and break the tap. Use thread cutting oil (tapping oil) in this process.

To JR from Samson,

Not to sound like a smart a&*, but my bike nor does the one referenced from the other thread have the plastic plugs on the left lower frame(his is a 1995 FLSTN)...the newer bikes do. Samson should do some research on this and include it in the instruction manual. I've looked at the bikes with the plugs, most are 2000 and newer. Mine has the little raised nipples on the frame but there are no pre drilled holes or plugs, its solid steel, the other guy caught hell for it too, but it turns out he was right... I'll be glad to send you a picture but if you look at the thread I referenced the guy already has pictures up... Mine looks just like his. it's a 1996 FLSTN. The part number ordered for my bike is
S-438 for 96-07 Softail.

Thanks

Little 'tip' here: Grind the point off the tap and you're get more threads without having to drill quite so deep.

Yeah there was a cut off around (I think 95 or 96 for those plugs). My 97 has the threaded holes already with the plugs.

I think the holes are drilled thru the frame. If not you can just buy a tap that does not have the point on the end.
