Default What to do with old speedo

So I just put in a new speedo/tach combo (easy instal, pretty cool with all the light combos...) anyways, I'm just wondering now if the old speedo is now garbage, or could it at some point be reinstalled on the bike if the new one broke or something. Anyone got a clue? No big difference, either way it'll end up in the pile with the rest of the stuff, just curious.

I kept mine just in case the new one fails. I assume it should work if I had to put it back on since the mileage info is stored on the ECM.
