Default Clutch adjustment

Is it necessary to replace the clutch cover gasket when re-installing the clutch cover?

How 'tight' is 172-120 in.-lb., for the clutch adjusting screw locknut?

Thanks!

Ive been using the same derby gasket for 5 years. Biggest tip is to make sure you are using a torx t-27 and not a 25. A little anti seize and not locktite is also a good idea. Dont know the torque.

Ditto to all the above.....I had to buy a t-27 just for that since my torx set skipped that size. I also used anti-seize...not locktite.

Thanks, everyone.

Is it necessary to use a torque wrench on the adjusting screw nut, do you think? The spec is 172 - 120 in.-lbs.

172 in-lb is about 14 ft lbs which if uve ever torqued alot you know is not a whole lot
If you don't have a torque wrench id try to borrow one if you can't borrow one I'd say snug it up w a 1/4 drive ratchet with ur hand on the head of the wratchet and not down on the handle should b pretty close

You can reuse the gasket as long as it wont leak. Throw away the torx screws and replace with button head allens

I've reused the gasket several times, and I never torque those screws, just get them snug with antisieze on them. There is no pressure inside the primary case so you're really only sealing the derby cover against splashing around and the pooling you get when the bike is on the sidestand.

I do like the newer full size paper gasket instead of the older o-ring. Not sure when they switched.

Thanks, good idea about changing the screws out.

So, what the torque on the adjusting screw nut? Very important to use a torque wrench, or no?
