Default 1 month wait for 1000mi service...

Well in 2 and a half weeks since I've bought the new fatty I've put alittle over a 1000 miles on. I went to schedule the 1000 mile service with the dealer and was told it would be a month wait....damn....there that backed up.....so I talked to a mechanic and he told me to change the oil and if nothing else was a problem it could wait....so i did....bought a service manual and have been reading up.....any thing else I should cheack and or change...it's running tip top with no problems.....

Change fluids in all 3 holes (primary, tranny, engine) and oil filter, fill the neck with grease (known to sometimes come almost dry from the factory), and I think that should do ya. If you got a manual, you could do pretty much the whole 1k service as outlined. All pretty simple procedures, and it'll save you a few bucks. Just keep all the receipts.

Same here, but this was in end of May last year. I figure he's waiting because the weather is getting nice and everyone wants their bikes tuned up. Speaking of, mine needs inspected...

You know how it is, their busy with the prep of new bikes for sale. They take care of you enough to take your money then after that you'll have to wait.

There's NO reason for a one month backlog on simple maintenance other than the dealership is short-staffed. That would lead me to wonder why they can't or won't keep qualified techs employed. Went by the local dealership this weekend and they were slammed. Then Sunday, the g/f's Fatboy wouldn't start and none of the simple things were wrong. Trucked it over and was told they couldn't get to it until Wednesday. 3 days I get - a month? NFW.

Prob shoulda put that first 1k on it to the bigger HD dealer. That sux, always want that first service done by the dealer IMHO but sounds like ya gotta handle on it.

Do it yourself and save the money. Its just a glorified oil change. Something you can easily do yourself.
