Default Service manual is wrong?

I have a 2009 Fat Boy. bought it new and I'm the only owner.

Went yesterday to replace my rear brake pads, and rather than the nuts
I was expecting holding the caliper on, I found some kind of torx bolt.

The service manual for 2009 Softail doesnt show this torx bugger.
It shows the standard bolt I was expecting.

Anyone know what size it is? I definitely dont have the right size...

I'm a bit annoyed that the service manual is wrong. I paid 65 bucks so that
I dont have to ask such a basic question....

Not trying to be a smarta$$ but are you sure it's torx?? and not just a 12 point headed bolt? I just had my calipers off and it took a 10mm 12-point socket.

And you'll need the 10mm 12 pt In a 1/4 drive or the socket wall will be to thick.

Yup. Torx

I was fully expecting the 12 point bolt. Thats what was on my 05 Fatty and its what the 2009 service manual shows.

I was very surprised and more than a little annoyed.

x3 on the 10mm 12 point 1/4 drive socket.

Not a Torx.

fwiw...caliper bolts are typically torx. If you look closely you'll see. However and luckily a 10mm 12 point socket or box end will securely fit it. Doesn't matter as long as ya get it off and on without rounding. Piece of cake.

Think there is some confusion here.. probably me being one of the confused LOL..

Most people consider torx as being internal.. ie.. a hole to stick the tool into..

Are you saying they are EXTERNAL torx?

there are external torx as well, you need sockets that have the torx in them. I have a set to work on Ford's. They love thoes things.

Perhaps I'm corn-fusing the issue being unsure about how many points are on anything.

There is nothing on the outside of the bolt for a wrench to grab onto.
It is a hole in the center of the bolt that a torx bit will fit into.

Some seem to be saying this is not torx, but it sure looked like torx to me...

12 point is apparently yet another type of wrench because apparently we didn't have enough already,

seems very similar to torx but with more "teeth"

Once again, the service manual just shows the same type of bolt as my 05 had. Not 12 point or torx
(maybe that IS an outside torx?, My box wrench fit it and that was good enough for me.

No such possibility here. Nothing on the outside of the bolt to grab. Its got a hole.

If I'm not describing this in a way that makes sense,. I'll post a picture when I get home...

I have V&H BSS so there isnt a lot of room in there. Hope I can find one short enough to get it in there...

2008 FXCWC. The rear bolt nearest the axle adjuster bolt is a T-40 torx.
