Duece speedo trouble

First test, turn on ignition, don't start, is speedo back light on? Must come on to do the code test. Other testing required to check speedo good/bad if the back light doesn't come on. Believe it or not the speedo has its own diagnostic system. Turn on ignition while holding the trip button in. Release when powered on. If you hold the tripo button in for more then 5 seconds in diagnostic mode it will clear the codes if you have read them out or not. Don't hold button in unless you want to clear codes. Speedo goes thru powerup sequence and then displays code as (example) d02SEt for a set code (code d02 is set) or (d02CLr) code d02 currently clear. Each additional click of trip odo button displays next code till pulse number comes up. 7 codes possible, and a number displays at end of codes to indicate pulses per unit measured. Go out of diagnostic mode by turning ignition off. Codes indicate type of problem.
