I always assumed the size (2 5/8") referred to the diameter of the face of the tach. The parts catalog does not give a dimension of the tach from the face to the back of the case. Does anyone know that dimension?

 

I would have to take mine apart to know exactly.
But a quick check of the housing looks like its about 3 to 3 1/2" long.
Its a standardized size so all Harley tach housings fit.
If you need an exact number for some reason, let me know.

I think mine was about 3 1/4 I d have to take apart fairing to measure . Where are you trying to put it??

 

I have a HD billet mount that will fit the tach and replace the handle bar clamp. I also have a windshield mounted. I do not have the tach yet. Eyeballing the the way the mount fits and the windshield it looks like it will be a tight fit for the tach. Before I invested more in the tach, I thought I would put on the mount and measure the distance from the the face of the mount to the windsheild. If I knew how long the tach was from the face to the back of the case I would see if there is a clearance problem,

 

Just put one on heritage with nastalgic removal w shield had plenty room
