Question Captive washer bolts on derby cover?

Hello,
While I learn how to tinker with my bike, I have removed the derby cover and primary cover to get some painting done. The bolts that I took out of the derby cover are really crappy, soft torx bolts that I want to replace with some number 8 steel hex-head bolts.

However, the torx bolts include a washer that does not come off, and apparently is called a captive washer.

Will it be a problem to use a regular washer with the new bolts?

Thanks!

I replaced all those stock bolts with chrome and added a regular washer....

No problems.

No.
I replaced the torx bolts on mine with polished stainless button head allen bolts I got at Ace Hardware.

I did the same with the ugly zinc looking bolt and washer on the brake peddle arm.

No loctite needed, but you might want to use some antiseize on'em if your using different bolts.

Anti-seize is a must! It makes it so much easier.

I used button head allen with a washer I cut to fit around the bolt.

Great, II'll get some regular washers.

I bought a cheap Craftsman torque wrench, the kind with the arrow gauge. But it says foot pounds instead of inch pounds. Is it just a matter of multiplying 80 by 12?

How did you cut the washers? They are pretty small...

You might want to return the cheap wrench and drop some coin on a better one.
If yer goin to be wrenchin on yer bike your goin to need it. It'll be money well spent.
Just sayin.
