Default Clutch issue?

I've been riding for 30 years and just recently have taken an interest in doing as much of my own work on my bike as possible. So here we go

99 springer softail is my baby, and we were out riding sat nite. 1st gear smooth
2nd gear just fine , 3rd gear... Perfect, 4th gear whoa where'd it go?

Got it home(trailer), changed tranny fluid (75w), no metal on drain plug
Drained primary, cleaned everything looks good.
When it sits cold, if I click in gear, it seems normal, can't pull or push bike.
Start it up, click in 1st, and let the clutch out.... Nothing, not a thing in any gear.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Did you adjust the clutch? The further you tighten down the clutch (inside the derby cover), the farther out from the handlebar the friction point is. Opposite holds true as well.

Did you try to push or pull the bike while it was running and in gear with the clutch lever out as you did when it was not running? You said that when it sits cold, I assume you mean not running, your could not push or pull the bike. Did you try to push or pull it while in gear with the clutch lever pulled in when it was not running?

Haven't adjusted clutch
While its running, in gear, with clutch out, I can feel a slight pull on the motor, not enough to move bike though. I can push, or pull it back with ease.

Does it go into gear fairly easy while running? Like it should.

Yeah, I don't notice any difference at all on the transmission shifting. Rode 200 miles last weekend without any hint of a problem. Sat nite I rode 7 miles to a friends house, and made it about 2 miles on the way back before it went out.

Pull the derby cover,Loosen jamb nut while holding the allen. Back allen out, then thread it in until you have very little clutch pull(a little is good) should feel it seat, tighten jamb nut. An offset wrench makes this much easier. You can fine tune on the clutch cable as there is an adjuster about the middle if the cable. Buy a manual man, worth its weight in gold.

I adjust my cable to where I get enough play for a loose dime at the clutch lever but not enuff for a nickle. If the clutch needs adjusted behind the derby cover, piece of cake. Watch the video is the easiest way to explain.
