I've got a new FLSTC with the football shaped factory AC and cover. Feel really stoopid asking this, but when going to stage 1 is the only option available the round AC and round cover? If so, so be it. However, if I could use the factory cover and throw the $100 plus in another direction like exhaust or tuner, I would feel better about it.

 

There are lots of "stage 1" a/c that use the factory football cover..

Most of the stage 1 kits allow the stock cover to fit. All H-D, Arlen Ness (the one I am using) and many, many others too. Just look at their pictures, if the top of the air cleaner has a threaded hole in the center, or uses the three holes on the throttlebody/carb to fasten the air cleaner to the base, you can fit the stock cover on the kit.

 

Yep, you can use the stock cover, you just lose the backing plate.

 

I have a teardrop cover on ebay right now. It came on my bike from the dealer with the SE Stage 1 air cleaner kit. It's part number 29409-02. New condition. check it out.

 

My bike had an Arlen Ness big Sucker under the stock cover when I bought it. Just changed the cover out a few weeks ago.
