Ive done it on several of my bikes and never had a problem. Just cut the wires staggered and use shrink tube on the soldered portion.

I've read lots of threads on The ext kits. Even though they just plug together, many people advised using a little solder on the connections because they had them pull apart at some point.

As for size, not sure. I just ran my stock wires through my 14" Outlawz and ended up with about 5" hanging out the bottom. I'm gonna mock them up this weekend to measure for cables and the wire extensions.

And...in response to the last question asked, one kit is all you need. It comes with the wires to do it all.
