You want to frees the fork tubes and heat the trees if you want to try this trick.

But as was said above, something isn't right. As soon as I loosened the pinch bolt, each fork slid out under its own weight.

If driving a flat-blade screw driver or chisel in the slot that the pinch bolt crosses doesn't do it, there's really something wrong.

If they were damaged that badly you probably should repalce the whole set uppers and lowers.

How did you damage the forks? If you've had a hard accident enough to bend the forks, it's a good bet you've damaged the trees.

roger that...just bought everything. upper, lower, bearings - next weekends project.
