Default What's with 07 Fatboy?

G/f bought an 07 Fatboy a few months back. Great bike and great deal, but it seems the 07 must be something of an orphan year. Many parts fit up to 06 or 08 and newer - what's up with that? Noticed it on seats and now she'd like chrome lower forks but the P&A book only shows pre 06 and 08 later.

What are the differences that make the 07 so unique?

I am thinking axle size is where the problem is. '08 and up use a 25mm axle and the older models used a 3/4" axle and if I'm right the '07 used a 1" axle. not sure of that on the '07 though, someone else will chime in on this.

07 was the "migration bike." It was the first year that it came with the 200mm tire, and they changed up the front tire too. There's issues with the front tire being off-center. They fixed quite a few things in the 08 model. Not to say 07 is crap, but it has it's own issues.

+1 on that explanation........I didn't notice the offset front tire until I cleaned it the first time. Rear fender is different (200 mm tire) but the front fender is the same. I have purchased stock Fatboy seats from different years and they seem to fit my bike. Also 07 was the first full year for fuel injection without a special order. They are unique. Some of the new speedos (ones you can reprogram the backlight color) won't reprogram either. I think that's why 07 HD accessorries are kind of $$$$$.

I knew about the EFI and wider rear tire/fender. Offset is news - thanks. That's about the only thing I've heard so far that might make chrome lower legs incompatible. Axle size shouldn't matter in that, I'd think.

I think you can use any lower legs as long as the axle size is right. The "cow bells" on the 07 have slots in them so they wont hit the fender. I know of people using 08 lowers to get rid of the offset but I dont know how it affects the handling. Mike

Thanks. Not concerned about the offset or interested in new lowers - just want to put the chrome covers over the lower legs.

I'm not sure I follow you. You want covers for the lowers? Or do you want the chrome lowers? I have a 07 and 09. I can check the axle size tomorrow if you would like. Mike

My mistake - I'd assumed the chrome lowers were actually covers over the existing aluminum legs. Took another look at the P&A after seeing your post and now realize they're actually the lower sliders. Explains the high $$ as well as the issue with 07s if, in fact, they have different axle sizes than both earlier and later. Thanks.

The 07's were "orphans" when it came to the front end thats for sure. I have a set of factory chrome wheels for the 07's if you're interested. PM me for details.
