Default exhaust temperature?

So I am looking at doing some powder coating on the exhaust. The guy I talked to yesterday said his standard coating was good to 300 degs. $20 more for the high temp coating. I guess I just answered my own question on which one to get but does anyone know how hot the pipes get right by the cylinder? $20 more for the high temp is plenty worth it to me. I would imagine at idle on a hot day they would get petty hot.

I've read somewhere that using an IR thermometer on the head pipe, the rear cylinder can be around 300*F, and the front can be around 270*F.. but it can be hotter than that.. i went with ceramic coating on the pipes im having done just for that reason, although powdercoating would have given me the color option i wanted. oh well. do you not have heat shields that could be PC'd instead?

Its a 2 piece heat shield that I'm gonna leave chrome and get the head pipe done in black. I think the ceramic is satin black from what he said, should look pretty good.....in my head anyways.

I'm sure what you read is that temperatures of 270-300 deg. are the cylinder head temperature, not the exhaust pipe. The pipes will be significantly hotter than that. I'm not sure of the exact temp, but I'd guess the pipes to be in the 500-700 deg range near the exhaust port.
