I just purchased one a few days ago.....Was real excited utill i read the BIG BOLD Letters which stated that you must recalibrate your ECM or buy an after market fuel pack.
What the hell is all that about. Has anyone else had to do similar ?
Yep, but you need to do that with just about any aftermarket air cleaner you buy, so go get yourself a good tuner (popular ones are Power Commander, TTS Mastertune, Power Vision, SEST, etc.) and enjoy your new A/C.
if you are going from a stock ac then yeah, gonna need a tuner, if you already have a stage 1 ac and are just changing to the rsd, then you will be fine
Yea, throw it on and take her out for a spin 1st. It may not be as bad as one might think. If you have ever had a tuner done on your bike you "MIGHT" be close enough to be alright but yea, usually when you open up more air flow you have to adjust or tune for it. Put a self tuner on to take care of any future mods too.
If you don't plan to do much more than the AC and pipes, I wouldn't worry a lot about buying a high dollar tuner. You can get by with a simple TFI controller which is a lot less expensive than the ones you need a computer to tune and dyno etc. If you are looking to work on increasing performance and going into stage 2 etc, then go with what some have already suggested.
i went from a hd breather to the rsd and noticed some difference some decel pop. i had a sest. i did get it retuned a ways down the road. enjoy its so much better looking than that football looking deal.
Go ahead and spring for the tuner it is way worth it and you will love the dofference with the RSD I did. By the way sooner or later you would be getting a tuner. Once you start you will never be able to stop upgrading, its like getting tattoos nobody can get just one and be done.
