The 1.5s are a perfect diameter for the deluxe/heritage. They are 'chunky' bikes, so the thickness of the bars blends in nice.
The bars are 14", but they are a big 14". I got cabling for a 16" bar and it's a perfect fit. Get the NAMZ cable extenders... Plug and play and they fish thru the bars without a problem. Probably saved an hour or two.
If you're doing it yourself, take the tank off and put the bike on a stand. I couldn't imagine doing it on the jiffy stand. Also to properly route and secure the throttle cables, you'll need to have the tank off.
Almost have it back together and will post up some pics once she's all buttoned up.

I was just curious if you knew the lengths over stock. I ordered my magnum cables through Dr V-Twin and based on my bars and the bike they said I would need +12 on all of them. Based on the numerous threads I've seen on here this seems like they'll be too much but I guess I'll find out next week.

Things that may help if you DIY..
- get Harley manual
- make sure you get a complete set star bits and Allen wrenches
- snap ring pliers
- take the tank off
- put the bike on a stand or block it up
- get the urethane bushings for the risers
- take pictures of everything before you rip it apart
- get the NAMZ extensions for your control wiring
- drink a couple of beers before you start and walk away for 10 minutes when you can't get something on or off.
