That about sums it up for me.

I have been riding all over NY and now live in FL !! In 1978 I saw a guy bust his head WITH a DOT helment so for me I like the skull caps. If you get hit going just 30 mph you end up breaking more that just your head!! Hell saw one freind of mine gut a deer in NY after it jump in front of him one night! So go there it is!

Well I normaly stay out of these topics but...Why do you really need to ride with a non DOT helmet? The number 1 reason is DOT 1/4 helmets look like crap in my opinion you look like a real dork BUT, they offer no protection what so ever in my opinion 1/4 helmets even if they are DOT approved offer minimal safety. Think about it how many accidents have you seen where a rider comes off there bike and lands on top of there head? The most common place to land is the front of your face and sun glasses aren't going to protect your face. As far as saying well when you crash you get broken bones and road rash, I personally would rather have broken bones, road rash or worse then being brain dead, I still like my brain a little to much. By the way NO helmet is DOT certified they approve them but they will never certify them.

Its like seat belts, about 1% are hurt by the them, but most are saved. I'm for the right to decide and don't wear one even though I've been hit 3 x by a car. I know, dumb on my part.

But honestly, after putting many a down biker on a helicopter, buckets saved more lives than not. I got hit in the 80's in FL and my gf broke her jaw, I hit my head on a driveway after flying off from the street and busted my bucket in 1/2. I also worked a part-time 2nd job 14 years on Daytona Speedway Safety Crew.
