They must be unfamiliar with the internet. That is ridiculous. It almost like saying, "just buy your tires somewhere else. We don't want to have to order them."

The dealer will charge about $80/hr for labor, a non-harley place might go as low as half that, but no lower...and it is a 4 hour job or so. Don't forget that if you have laced wheels (spokes) and you are doing this switch at the end of a set of tires usable mileage...the dealer (or any mechanic) will reccommend you get new tubes as well (about $20 each or more)...just another expense for guys with spoked wheels.
If you are willing to drive about 80 miles to Roanoke, AL the next time you need tires, I got a guy that can get factory Dunlops for $148 and $60 installed for both. I just got both tires, mounted and balanced for $356 out the door. He has BY FAR the best prices I've found anywhere.

No kidding !!! That is just bullsh__!!

Our local dealer uses the Harley part # for the tires. I want to say the frt was $164 and the rear was $192

Like I said, I got the SAME F'ing tires at Road Rider for over $50 ea cheaper. Probl low-mid $60's now that I think about it.
Considering the $ of tubes & Rim-strips too.

Shop around!!!! Oh and I rode an 012 with the E3's. They ride nice and they do track a little less on rain grooves and seams etc.

For spoke wheels, I've always done my own with an old fashioned bead breaker and tire irons. Hell, you can even buy a cheapo balancer from Harbor Freight for $40. Finding good chrome spoke weights can be tough though.

I get about the average, in the STL area. $225 for the front, $300 for the rear. Never had both done at the same time, though. I would imagine you'll save a little smidge on labor if you do. Just guessing.

Now remember I live in Canada...
Got a set of Avon venom whitewalls shipped to north Idaho for @175 for the rear and @ 160 for the front from Rocky mountain ATV and for 50 bucks I had my indy install and balance them so for inside of 400 bucks I got a "Start The Car" deal, inwhich I was quoted up here for just a factory dunlop REAR blackwall at the dealer for $500 installed.
I guess deals like that are a perk of living so close to the american border.
