Default Had my dealer gap my rings... Grrrr!

I bought the 103 kit from zippers without the cams.
I had my dealer gap the rings for me.
I asked if after they were done could they put the pistons in the cylinders for me so I could just get them on the rods.
After alot of arguing with the guy and him still seeming like he didn't think it was a good idea I show up and they are in the cylinders.
The counter guy has some note how the rings aren't on the right slot so I will need to move them? WTF
Why put them in the cylinders with the rings incorrect.
The guy next to him said no he told him to take them out, clean it up and put it in correctly. He took it out to show me and then didn't want to put them back in.
Went and got a ring compressor, came back.
The next thing I know he's banging on the piston with his palm trying to force it in. I told him to stop, never mind.
No assembly lube and your pounding them in. Ill do it myself, thanks but no thanks. Damn!

Vent over!

Better check the ring gap before you go any further.

And why even ask them to put them in the cylinder when all you need is a large hose clamp to do it yourself? And why install the pistons in the jugs before installing the pistons on the rods? I have never seen it done that way nor have I ever tried to do it that way.

it makes it hard to install the wrist pin clips in my opinion. (which are a pain, in the first place). Also how do you know they positioned the ring gaps in the right places? soulds like a disaster just waiting to happen!!besides didn't the rings come with the pistons? usually, they are already set to a very good gap. dude buy yourself a good ring compressor, that can be used on bikes/air cooled motors, that disassemble from below. if you want to work on your motor, fine but use tools that will make the job right

by the way, that hose clamp idea can really damage the ring. I would be very careful about that one

I have seen it done like that, pistons in the jugs . Once you get the hang of it, works good. I didn't do mine that way though. I would recheck everything they did just to be sure. engine work should never be hap hazzard like that. Make sure you wash the cyl walls with soap and water and completly dry before assy. also use engine oil on the rings for lube,

Well heck, now I find out. After almost thirty years and dozens of engine builds someone tells me it's a bad idea, and to think, none of the engines I have ever built developed ring problems.

I got the idea from many on this board who have said they did it that way and was much easier getting the piston in the cylinder on the bench then trying it the other way.
It doesn't really matter now because they did such a **** poor job that I have to take them out, check everything, clean it up so I will be doing it myself.
