thanks for all the replies, i am going with the heat treatment, will attempt it whilst off work for the xmas holidays, so merry xmas everyone and a happy new year.

If your shearing torx sockets then the first thing you need it better sockets. I've had cheap ones twist on me the first time I tried to use them.

+1 on the cheap sockets, hard to find good ones, I broke all my bolts with the wheels still on the bike until I got to the last one and my indy had to get that one, not sure how but i bet it involved a good socket and an impact wrench
