I have this

But I added a few more tools ( Mini flashlight , sandpaper, adjustable wrench, couple extra sockets and torxs ) and stuffed it all into one of these

and into one of these

Seems a bit overkill but I had my exhaust bolts loosen up on a Mountain one time on my Sportster and another time I had my shifter pedal thingy come loose. Both times really sucked and I had NO bars on my Cell phone. I have a ton of tools stuffed into that little chrome thingy. I hope I never need them.

I use the Cruze Tools Teardrop. It is better and alot cheaper than Harley!
The only thing I added to this kit was a small tube of blue Loctite.

I put this in a black Harley Tear Drop toolbox like "Totally bored" has in his pic.
The only thing I modified was to change out that universal barrel key lock on the Tear Drop box with a real key so It will actually lock shut and somewhat protect my investment in my tools. It was about $5 at the local hardware store and took 5 minutes to take the old one off and put this on.

I also carry a mini bicycle tire pump and a small tire plug kit in my small handlebar bag.

I do my preventative maintenance in the garage..
most things that break on the road cannot be fixed with a few tools.
however if you have to tighten loose stuff on the road .......?? maybe adjust your maintenance schedule

have cell phone , and credit card..
have trailer at home , just in case

Every tool is under 6" in width. Throw all into this pouch which fits broadside in the back corner of my saddle bag. It's never in the way. I carry tools hoping not to have to use them along the way but if in a crunch, I've pretty much got it covered. All into a pouch like this isn't for everyone but works for me. Takes up a minimal amount of space and I've got about every tool I would "want" to use out on the road. When working on my bike at home I use my tools from my shop so the set on my bike stays on my bike. If you need your tools to always be accessible in an organized manner, then obviously this probably won't work for you.
