The OD of the bearings is the same (52mm) so it is just a matter of the bearing ID. The trouble is that finding a metric OD and SAE ID isn't easy outside of buying the HD ones from a dealer.
The other issue is the bearing spacing in the wheel and the 2 different widths of the bearings. One is 15mm the other is 18mm. This is not hte case with the 3/4" ID bearings which are both 15mm wide.
Trouble also arises from the fact that the bearing housings are also different. One bearing housing is 19mm deep while the other is 26mm deep.
For my installation of a 17" profile, laced Touring wheel (dual disc) on my 2004 Softail, I will simply set the bearings to the depth that gives me the same outside spacing as the 16" 2004 wheel had.
As well, bearings should be set against a facing in the housing. It appears that this will not occur with a pair of 15mm wide bearings. This will mean building 52mm spacers of the correct width to locate the bearings in the housings, and building the internal spacer to match the resulting inside bearing interspace.
Then one will have to be certain that the external spacer(s) locate the brake rotors correctly in the calipers.
