Default Black Out Or Not To Black Out?

Need opinions please.

Just got the first batch of powder coats (Dupont Black Magic) on the Lo...I am torn between going all black or brushing the chrome seen here to match. Not seen here are Carlini bars also PC'd. I am nervous going all flat black and turnining into 'Blah'.

Thanx & Cheers.

Not sure exactly what your asking.
Are thinking of powder coating all the brushed chrome on the engine?

If so I'd say no. Do the forks but I'd leave the engine the way it is. You need to have some contrast to make the parts stand out. If its all one it's blah

Engine left alone. Next time I spend crazy money on engine, I will remember to get black tops.

I mean more for parts like the light rings that are regular chrome.

I do really want to do the forks and probably will...I need to see the fenders on to mkae sure it's all groovy.

Alright, so it sounds like you're considering "brushing" the chrome of your light rings etc. to match you engine parts. If that's correct, I don't think you will achieve that "matched" look.

I'm almost certain that your lower fork legs and engine parts are just brushed aluminum. If that's correct, you will never be able to brush chrome to match the look of brushed aluminum.

In reality you'll most likely just ruin the chrome parts and then you'll have to paint or PC them black. I personally like the bikes current contras, but that's just me.

Why don't you PhotoShop the parts black on your computer to see what look you like best?

to start with I'd get rid of the reflectors, get a lay down license place frame and why do you have two sets of front turn signals, one on the bars and on one below the auxiliary lights. I'd also power coat the headlight and auxiliary light rings to match the headlight bucket.

Aye Norca, I am already got that planned...when fenders go in for paint, struts get it. Also I have a Kury bar w/ plate underneath PC'd & back in the box for when the rear fender gets fitted.

And good point trying to match polished alum. Well if doesnt go well..guess I have to black out anyways

all blacked out was cool before so many started doing it, it looks pretty sweet right now and I am sure the bars make it look even better. I would lay down the license plate holder. This all comes from a guy who's most obvious accessory on a Heritage is a smooth round air cleaner. Spent the rest of the my money on the motor.

I think it looks cool as is (without seeing the Carlini bars) and I agree with kozy22, some level of contrast keeps the bike from looking bland.

For further customization, I personally like leather to add contrast (solo bags, fork bags, different seat setup, etc). I also like to find companies that offer different customization options that you don't find in your typical HD store.

Looks like you're having fun with your project. Keep it up and please keep the pics coming!

Here's the 1.5" freeway bars PC'd now.

Another choice to make..lil chrome on grips, mirrors and levers. Based on if going all black out or not...tis why in 2 weeks I need to know what direction I am going once bars are on.

And thanx folks for feedback..also this may help others with ideas same time.
