Default 18X5.5 vs 18X6

I am going to be upgrading my wheels this winter, it is for a 2007 night train. I see that most people are going with the 18X5.5 but i was wondering why not go with the 6" wide rim that would be closer to stock, i see that some 200 tires need a minimum rim with bigger than the 5.5" to mount them. So i am just wondering why people are going with a 5.5" rim?

Because nobody makes one? 17 x 6.25 or 18 x 5.5 are pretty much your choices...and the 17's are hard to find in most brands.
