Default Dip Stick Blowout

So I am jumping on the throttle to pass someone this afternoon and suddenly I feel hot oil splashing all over the back of my leg. My 09 FXSTC decided that i needed to pay more attention to it i guess. I guess the dipstick had vibrated loose and I didnt think to check it after a long hot day at work. So i have this huge smoke screen behind me as oil bathes the entire right side of the bike and coveres the rear tire. Stopped fine on the side of the road and got a tow through H.O.G. Now i have something to do on my day off, new dipstick and very long bath for my baby.....

Thats what I get for passing the really slow guy... (on a double yellow)......

If you haven't recently changed the oil or checked the oil level (iow your dipstick hasn't been pulled lately) you probably have a different problem. You need to make sure that your new dipstick doesn't easily pull out. If it's been sitting a lot then the rubber o-ring is probably smaller and the dip stick is blowing out from the back pressure. If you have the complete rubber type dip stick, throw it away and get the old style o-ring stick.

Default Lost Oil Dipstick 97 EVO 80 Road King FLHRI

This happened to me after riding to the Smoky Mountains from Jacksonville, FL. I was on the way back to Florida on I95 running about 75 MPH and about 100 miles from home when I pulled into a gas station to top off and as I was coasting to a stop, my engine shut off. Then I realized that I didnt have any back brakes. Once I got it stopped, I realized that the whole back right side of my Road King was covered in oil and the oil dipstick was gone. Rear brakes were covered in oil. As luck would have it, I was across the street from Golden Isle Harley Davidson who just happened to be open on a Sunday. That's when they told me that my oil dipstick was an obsolete part and had to be "special ordered". I was able to get it home with a homemade cap on the oil reservoir and topping off with oil ( I had only lost a quart), but it still beats me how I lost it. That has never happened to me before....

It happened to me about 3 months ago.
I found out that the rubber seal on my analog temperature dipstick had hardened and wasn't sealing anymore. Whenever I got on it, the dipstick would pop out just enough for oil to leak out the top.
I ended up buying a new dipstick and it solved the problem.

Do all what is listed by previous posts, but also many will run this model 1/2 qt lower then recomended and make sure you do not overfill, it will also cause this. Do you have the stock air filter or aftermarket high flow with breathers?

Cool is it cold where you are?

this happened to me lost 2 dipsticks
one I bought brand new.
what a mess huh?
never going to lose another.
when I woke up at 6 am my bike was covered in ice.
I did not let it warm up real real good like I should have.
I got on the freeway 80 mph for about 15 minutes then I lost power (and my dipstick)
condensation builds up inside the engine. it freezes and mixes with the oil causing a froth that plugs up the injector holes in the bottom of pistons.
do a compression check on the engine.
My input my not be of any help to you and this situaTion but it happened to me. thing is I know within 100 yards of where my second dipstick came out I looked for an hour for it. It must be on the roof.
second picture should explain why it is never going to happen to me again.

Mine started coming out one day because I blocked off the vent tubes that go in the back of the air breather. Unplugged the hose and never had a problem since.
