Default When to change wheel bearings

Just had new tires put on my 05 Heritage Softail. Had 21,850 miles on them. After installing tires the dealer suggested I change the wheel bearings in the near future, but did not say they was anything wrong with them. Should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Wheel bearings are typically checked when replacing tires, and replaced then if needed.

He is only going by mileage; if he had felt any roughness in the bearings, then he would have recommended replacement at that time. I don't replace mine based just on mileage.

You might not want to wait another 20k miles before checking. You can do it yourself; remove the wheel and then rotate the bearing with your fingers. If it isn't totally smooth then have it replaced.

I have 43k on my wheel bearings, never been changed as far as I know. Might have em swapped out this winter when I've got it all apart, but they seem to be fine so far.

Wheel bearings are relatively cheap and an easy replacement. They should be checked every tire change and replaced if there is any suspicion of degradation. A buddy of mine wrecked his Road King when a front wheel bearing failed.

07 FXST wheel bearings $11.00 and mine go bad about every 25,000 miles but I'm still on the original rears.

Check mine every tire change, and my originals are still in there at 94,000 miles. I've got a set of bearings to install on the next tire change (at about 100K.)

The newer bikes, (2008 and up,) with the 25 mm axle only have single row ball bearings in them and are apparently more prone to fail WAY earlier than that however.

You got 21,850 on original tires? I can't get more than 5,000 to 6,000 on the rear tire.

Do a lot of two up riding and long trips.
