How to remove rear signals?

How to remove rear signals?
Has anyone removed the rear bullet turn signals from the the fender struts.? I need to remove them so I can install saddle bags.
I turned the chrome lock nut, which was reverse threaded and then screwed the bullet signal loose. How do I unplug the wires? Can this be done without taking the fender loose?
I appreciate any instructions since I don't want to break anything.

RE: How to remove rear signals?
Not sure on a Fatboy, but to remove the rear signals on my Night Train, I removed the taillight, unplugged the signal harnesses, removed the 3 rear strut bolts, loosened the 2 front ones so that I could pull the strut away from the fender (I could have removed the struts altogether if I'd wanted to) enough to clear the long bolt that attaches the stem to the strut, removed it (from the inside of the strut), then pulled the wires through the hole in the strut, and retightened the strut. Do only one side at a time. If you have a sissybar, you'll have to remove it as well.
Hope that helps.
Cheers!

RE: How to remove rear signals?
Clammy,
Thanks for the response. I was trying to leave the wires, for the signals, where they are currently routed to the rear hole in the fender strut. I am fairly sure I can replace the existing rear turn signals with some from J&P Cycles. They are a lot smaller in diameter and mount flush against the aft of the fender strut. The new signals should fit with the saddle bags in place.
