Default Engine tapping noise at 3800 rpm's

My Heritage Softail starts tapping at 3800 rpm's. It sounds like it comes from the primary. Some posters say don't get the 255 cams because they fall off at 4500 rpm's. My bike sounds like it would explode if I got anywhere near 4500 rpm's. Is there something wrong with my bike or is this normal for Harleys. Thanks in advance.

Maybe a loose compensator sprocket? That is the first thing that comes to mind for me. What eyar is your bike? If you have 2000-2006 it could be the primary chain is loose and hitting the indie of the primary cover. 07 and newer have the auto primary chain tensioner.

I have a 2011 with 5800 miles on it. I need to find a good indy mechanic that I can trust.

If its a 2011 its still under warranty, why would you take it to an indy?

That 96B engine is noisy as hell anyways, maybe it's normal. In any case, take it back to the dealer and have them check it out.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Kiethhu is right. It is still under warranty. It never crossed my mind. Thank you.

Holly Chit,, just take the fugger back to the dealer and ask him to take a look at it... If u don't like/trust the one where U got it, then go find one that U do.
