Default Magnum cables shield wear

I was looking at my bike when I got home and I noticed some spots that were worn on my cable shielding from rubbing. Any of you guys dealt with that and what did you do to fix it?

There are a couple of spots where the cables rub, the dude that installed mine put some clear plastic shrink tube on in those spots.

The cable shield is generally the metallic braiding, so your Magnum's wore through the outside clear jacket and into the shield? Definitely friction contact. J &P Cycles offer a good selection of clamps to better isolate. Fixing the blemish...maybe rolling several layers of clear, packaging tape (1.5" width), or if you remove the cable, slip a couple pieces of clear heat-shrink tubing over it.

My issues with the Magnum's (Chromite sterling units) are brown discolorations throughout the length which appear to be on the surface of the braid. I don't understand this as my bike is garage kept and seldom ridden in rain.

Just worn through the jacket not the shield yet. Those are some good ideas for me to try. Thanks guys. Let me know if you think of any better.

My clutch cable did this...turned brown under the clear jacket. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced it. Contact however you purchased the cables from. They should replace them??

Ut-oh...I just talked to the folks at Magnum Shielding about getting some brake and Clutch cables. The Chromite II.. Are these the ones you guys are talking about? Should I stay away from them. Any suggestions would be great!

Those are the ones Fat Mike but don't let that stop you. They are great cables and I would buy them again. Mine were just not routed very well and they were rubbing on some sharp metal parts. I sleeved the worn areas and rerouted the cables right after my original post and no problems since.

Thanks Ash16... I am sure I will. Other threads had good thoughts on them. Then I saw this one and got me thinking. I read to much on here sometimes and get myself all worked up over so many opinions.
