Default Help keep my record perfect!!

OK guys I need some help, here’s the skinny. I have a 2002 FXST (carb). I am the original owner. I have the S&S IST ignition system, S&S carb, Vance and Hines Big Radius exhaust ( without baffles ). This past winter installed the gear drive kit with Andrews 37 cam, Feuling oil pump, lifters and cam plate, also adjustable push rods. Well the problem started with my bike blowing the accessory fuse, looked and looked and found that a wire had rubbed a small hole, where the wire from inside the handle bars comes out in the center of bars. Taped it and put some sheathing on it and that stopped the fuse from blowing again. I also replaced the horn and bought a new battery,( $130.00 for battery…..DAMN!!!). Now a couple of years ago I hard wired the garage door opener to the high beam indicator light, so when I pull up all I do is flash my high beam and garage door opens. Well here goes, My check engine light came on, bike ran and sounded crappy. Speedometer seemed to be off or maybe it’s in my head but it seems to register about 5-8 mph for a second when I’m actually stopped. Did some reading on this and thought maybe I need a speed sensor, so I bought one, installed it, cleared the code by doing the run off switch 50 times but the light came back on. I hate bringing bike to stealership in fact this will be the first time if we can’t figure this out. Sorry for such a long read, but I wanted to make sure you guys had all the facts. Help!!!!!!!!!

Ok, other than the two under the seat and the one by the triple trees, where else should I look?

OMG!! Guess what? I posted this on another site,(copy-paste) I was spanked for my use of language. Some of the guys gave me other ideas to check so I thanked them and stated how I felt the words I used were not that bad...I have just been banned from that site for a week!! Talk about egos. Well I put a jumper on the data link connector and turned the ingition on. The check engine light turned on once for a couple of seconds went out for a couple of seconds then flashed twice. This seems to be the only code ....flash...flash, flash. Any ideas?

Pulled this from another site :
"= Invoking engine diagnostics on a < 2003 Harley =

To activate the diagnostic feature of the Check Engine Lamp, proceed as follows:

1)Turn the Ignition/Light Key Switch to IGNITION for three seconds (one second pause after the fuel pump stops running), and then turn switch back to the OFF (FLHTC/U-I, FLTR-I) or LOCK (FLHR/C-I) position for three seconds.

2)Repeat the instructions under step 1. above

3)Turn the Ignition/Light Key Switch to IGNITION and wait approximately eight seconds for the Check Engine Lamp to start flashing.

4)All trouble codes are sent out as a series of flashes. To retrieve the first digit of the trouble code simply observe the number of times the lamp flashes. The lamp will then flash one or more times to indicate the first digit of the trouble code. The length of time the lamp is illuminated and the length of time in which it is off are each about 0.5 second in duration. The second digit follows: following the transmission of the first digit, there is a 1.2 second pause in which the lamp is off. The lamp will then flash one or more times to indicate the second digit of the trouble code. Count the number of times the lamp flashes to retrieve the second digit.

5)If more than one trouble code is sent: following transmission of the second digit of the first code, there is a 3 second pause in which the lamp is off. Once all codes have been sent, the data string is repeated.
EFI Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and Fault Conditions

There are two types of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), current and historic. The Check Engine Lamp will not indicate the existence of historic trouble codes.

So is it throwing more codes or do we just guess?.

I'd at least check where U made changes to see if there are shorts or grounding going on.

xraybox, thanks for that but I think you left out the most important thing. You have to get the data link plug and connect pins one and two in order for this to work. Went to the dealership and they said because I have the ist ignition module, their computer doesn't communicate with my bike, so I had to ask an S&S dealer to contact the company and ask them. The harley dealership said that the engine flashing meant nothing to them but it might mean something to S&S. My flashes were a 12, so I replaced my map sensor dissconnected the battery then cleared the code. Keeping my fingers crossed cause it did take a couple of days the last time I cleared it for it to rear it's ugly head. Praying to the Harley gods now. Oh and just so you know, the other site that thought damn and crappy were reasons enough to throw me out for a week was hdtalking. Oct.1949 no need to guess.....unless this doesn't work!!!

This carburetor uses a MAP sensor? Usually that's for EFI.
