best mileage I ever got from a Harley was my 2004 Road King Custom 88 inch with stage one air...map tune...and a set of Wild Pig pipes...
I saw an honest 50 mpg...my buds had to math it themselves, and agreed.
of course, I only weigh 160 so maybe that had something to do w/ it.
I had a few HD's before...and a 3 HD's since...including my '11 FB Lo...
But I'd love to have that bike back...

I will say my 07 RK got a lot better milage than my Heritage, but the RK was Stage I and the Heritage is a 103 Stage 2. I ride the Heritage a lot harder than the RK. There is no mystery on why the RK got better mileage than Heritage does now. The RK was high 40s/low 50s and the Heritage is low 40s on a good day. All true, but I imagine not unusual.

I ride an 08 JUltra, Wife rides an 06 Deluxe. Neither has had any engine mods. We both have very similar riding styles, no quick starts etc..
I consitently get 48-53 on the highway, wife gets 40-45. The key for me is I use Cruise about 95% of the time I am on the freeway, with cruise and the 6 speed...mileage is pretty good.

That was definitely true of my '06 Street Bob. No cam upgrade, but a high flow a/c, Rush slip-ons, and a SERT brought my mileage up from a best of 49mpg to a best of 53mpg. I regularly hit 50+mpg afterwards right up until the gas stations switched over to ethanol.
With ethanol, I'm back down to the high 40s even when I'm very light on the throttle. I lost a couple of highway MPG on my S10 pickup also. I'm not against using ethanol - just wish they'd mix it so it doesn't take away so much from the MPG. It may be a regional thing (I'm in the northeast). But it seems we're paying more at the pump and getting less per tank.
My '10 Heritage has seen nothing but high test ethanol blend. Best mpg to date has been 48mpg with high flow a/c, V&H slip-ons, and a SEST. Even so, that seems excellent when you consider the added weight, larger engine, and windshield of my Heritage compared to my Street Bob.

Wrong..IMO..... the son and I have had 4 new 96er's in the last 5yrs and every one of them actually have gotten better mileage after the Stg1 and cams with SERT or SEST and a good dyno tune.. At least by 2-3 more MPG...
Unless we twisted our right hand all the time....then expect low 40's
So don't fully expect to get worse mileage after a cam install... EXPECT to get Better mileage.......
