Default How hard is it to swap out the oil tank?

I have an 04 fatboy and was thinking of swapping out the oil tank and going with a painted one. How big of a job is it? The exhaust are off- the tins are off, etc. I am getting stressed about how much is apart and don't want to go farther then I should into this! I'll be installing a hi-lo air ride too. Seems like a good time to do it all?

Also, is paint ok on the tanks? I know they get hot but regular auto paint should be ok right?

i would get it powdercoated just to be sure. as for difficulty, I would think it would be more messy than anything

I have done mine and it's painted. It's been on over a year. You are starting with a chrome one so powder coating may hold up better, mine was plain steel

Follow the manual and its fairly straight-forward.
I rebuilt the stater clutch last year which required removing the oil tank. Disconnecting the oil line below the tank was the biggest headache because of extra chrome pieces I had installed.
Purchase the oil line removal tool to disconnect the feed and return lines.

Thanks for the info. The tank
I have is OEM wrinkle finish in black. I plan to keep the stock chrome one until I decide if I like the black

I should have been more clear in my last post. I have a wrinkle finish one now but need to get it coated/painted in gloss. (probably black but maybe another color)
