I could hear mine fine as well. On the highway I wear earplugs and that eliminates the wind noise in my ears allowing me to hear better.

Hey Wastingas, did you ever get the kuryakyn sounds of chrome speakers? I am trying to decide between this and the J&M mhas-2008 ones. The kury's have less watts (50 vs 80) but they are a lot cheaper and a bit nicer looking too
