Default Noob Needs Help - Preload Adjustment

Trying to adjust the preload on my 2011 Heritage, having trouble getting the jam nut to loosen up. My owners manual tells me to put a wrench on the flat of the shaft, and then loosen the jam nut. The problem is I don't see any flats on the shaft.

Thanks,

Mike

Put the wrench on the jamb nut and pull it toward the brake side of the bike. Then you will be able to adjust the shocks to your preference. The flat on the shaft is towards the front of the bike if you reach up along the front of the shock rod you can feel it. You have to put the wrench in at an angle to get the open end wrench to hold it. And then it will be hard to get the jamb nut loose as it's a pretty tight area.

Best to get on the floor if you dont have a bench, work from the right side, put the spanner on the nut on the, not the rod itself. Pull the spanner towards you to losen the jam nut.
Just rember to adjust the pre-load equally before tightening the jam nut.
I used the HD tool for the whole job with no problems.
Hope this helps
