Default 2 into 1 exhaust. Do I NEED to get an air filter+tune?

I've got a set of roadhouse 2 into 1 pipes that I want to put on my deluxe, but I can't afford the full stage 1 just yet. Am I able to put the pipes on without changing out the air filter and getting it tuned?

Also, as the pipes don't have o2 sensors I was going to get some bungs welded into them and use the sensors off my stock pipes. Sound ok?

Sounds good to me. You don't need to upgrade the air cleaner or get a tune if you change out the exhaust.

You don't "need" to, however if you expect any of the performance that a 2 into 1 has to offer, you should do the a/fltr & etc when $$$$ allows.
Then you'll see (& hear) the difference.

With a set of better pipes but the same restrictive air cleaner, you won't see much performance gain at all. By the same point, the bike won't be running much leaner since it still can't breath. Therefore you can probably hold off on the re-tune although it's still running lean from the factory. This may cause your pipes to blue faster than you would like. At least you're part way there with a set of pipes that will sound better and I assume look better to you since you picked them out.

Thanks guys.

I understand I'm not going to gain much (if anything) in performance, but I'm hoping it will look and sound better than the stock pipes. I plan on getting an A/C + Tune as soon as I'm able to.

A couple of questions...

1. Can I remove the o2 sensors without unplugging them? I've traced them back and they don't seem easy to get to at all. Something tells me I'll do more harm than good if I don't unplug first.

2. Do the bungs need to be in the same place as the stock pipes? The pipes I'm putting on are roadhouse 2 into 1's with serrated pipes (picture attached) - that's going to be hard to weld in the bungs (at least I think it will be).

3. Should I just give up now and wait until I can afford some FatCats?

Not sure how you can weld bungs in those. I don't think I could do it.

You'd want to get them as close to the original spot as possible, but I agree that you'd have a pretty hard time welding to that. And yes, you can remove them without disconnecting them (been there, done that) but honestly, it's awkward and really twists the wires, so the next time I disconnected them, and I recommend you do the same...

I have the same bike. I did the fat cat with a se heavy breather and dyne tune and love it. I initially just did the pipes and the bike felt and rode just fine.

Its a matter of how you want the bike to perform.

I would suggest a big air breather and a fuel management box.

Putting on a less restrictive exhaust will make the motor want and look for more air. Giving it more air without fuel management will throw off the fuel/air mix and make the motor run poorly - giving to backfires, popping, sputtering etc.

If its $$$ thats tight - save up and do it right the first time.

Thats my 2 cents
