Many prefer just leeks and olive oil.

HOWEVER, this was the first post, so someone should welcome him. That I will do: Welcome to the forum!

Now, if anybody knows about oil leaks, let the mechanically inclined help this fellow out!

Ride safely.

I would suspect it is a rocker box leak before a head gasket leak. Either way, not a huge job. It just takes the removal of the tank and some time. A good standard set of Allen head sockets and torx sockets as well as standard wrenches and ratchet/socket sets should get you there within three or so beers.

Take your time and learn your bike. Oh and this should go without saying but you MUST have an HD service manual. There are too many things that the forums won't be able to tell you or that an aftermarket, like Clymer, gloss over. The MOCO manual is the only one to read.

I would only add, use a torque wrench as you are going to want to get this right on the first pass. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

+1 on this. More than likely it's the rocker box gaskets leaking. It's very easy to over tighten these bolts. A manual is a must. But the job itself is pretty basic. Simple remove, replace and reinstall.
Welcome to the boards.

In spite of the grammer and the sloggin' from same the post is golden. I now have the courage to take this on and also install the aux light package I have had for over a year since the tanks have to come off anyway. Reluctant to get into the tank removal - - 99 is in near perfect paint condition and I haven't wanted to mess things up - - REL SLOW for REL LOW Thanks ya'll
