Get an extra set of hands to help with this. It will make it a lot easier. Drain the tank!

Don't forget to remove the fuel pump relay and crank the bike before you pull the fuel line to relieve pressure. Do not remove the tank, it is a waste of time and a hassle. Pull the seat and bolts like others have said and the tank pulls back plenty far enough. Also, I think someone else said it but you do not need the snap ring pliers. Inside the clutch cover you can pull the lever back far enough to release the cable and the new cable will go on without removing the ring. It is a fairly simple process, especially if you have wrenching and wiring experience as it sounds you do. I have installed several sets of apes on different bikes and have not had any issues. If you have any questions feel free to pm me as well, I do not mind helping out a fellow rider.

well fellows, I started the install this weekend... still not finished.. lol...

no, I didn't get to work on it the entire weekend... and hour here, couple of hours another time, etc... ran into 3 main problems that really took a lot of time.. no way in hell I could have done the whole thing in 6 hours with the problems I ran into..

is it hard? no.. is it a pain in the ***? YES...

as soon as I get all the pics uploaded I'm going to start a tutorial to maybe help someone out in the future... they can learn from my mistakes...

I ran the wires internally on my new bars this weekend.

A simple tip that I really wish I thought of before I started.... check for any burrs on the inside of the bars. Mine had a burr at the bend that was tearing the wires when I pulled them through. A tiny file on the end of a coat hanger took forever! And this was after I dug out the shrink wrap that had ripped off and caught in the middle of the bars.

Rambo, you did fish a string in there to pull the wires through, right? The hard angles of your bars could pose a bigger problem than my sweeping bends I guess. Keep the updates coming in your tutorial thread. I'm curious where you got stuck.
